A town on the water. A dog that stays steady.
Dogs who live near a big lake meet a steady parade of strangers, and many get overexcited. They pull toward the shoreline, bark at passing boats or jump on anyone carrying a cooler. The trainer uses the stay to practice calm walking, waiting and greeting in places with real activity, so the lessons are not limited to a quiet yard.
The Douglas Lake shoreline and the older blocks of the historic center give two different settings, one open and one compact. Highway 92 and the interstate are useful for introducing louder traffic and car routines. Geese, fishing gear and picnic tables are good tests of focus.
Plan the return for a calmer week if you can, not the middle of a holiday weekend. Introduce the lake in small steps, with a leash, a sit before approaching the water and praise for staying close. The same trainer works with the dog from first day to last, so you can talk through your own shoreline. The form on this page starts a free estimate.

Why owners choose this
One trainer. Your dog. Real results.
We do not refer owners to franchise training chains. In our view, they lean on less experienced staff and indoor facilities instead of real-world training.
Good questions
Before we begin.
Should we wait to go boating after the stay?
It is wise to let the dog settle at home first. Then try a short, calm outing before a full day on the water.
How can I control lake pulling on walks?
Practice loose-leash walking away from the shore, then slowly move closer. Reward your dog for checking in with you as the water gets nearer.
Can the trainer help with barking at passing boats?
They can teach a settle and an interrupt cue. You may also need to manage the view from the porch or window.
